Description
The POC Tectal Race Spin builds upon the success of the award-winning Trabec by refining the fit and improving the level of protection. The Tectal Race Spin offers the same deep coverage. aramid fibre bridge system. and unibody shell construction as the standard Tectal but raises the level of protection even further with the inclusion of their SPIN rotational liner system. SPIN (Shearing Pad INside) uses a silicon gel-like membrane inside the pad that allows the helmet to rotate a small amount independently of the head to reduce the rotational forces on the brain caused by oblique impacts.
Who’s this item for: POC has developed the Tectal for aggressive trail riding and Enduro racing but it’s totally suitable for any kind of MTB riding. apart from full-on DH.
Construction: The helmet uses reinforced EPS liner and a unibody shell construction to maximise the structural integrity while keeping the weight nice and low. An aramid fibre bridge system provides extra protection against penetration from sharp objects.
Rotational liner: The Tectal Race Spin uses POC’s new SPIN padding system. SPIN (Shearing Pad INside) uses a silicon gel-like membrane inside the pad that allows the helmet to rotate a small amount independently of the head to reduce the rotational forces on the brain caused by oblique impacts. The system is built into the pads themselves and is intended to provide a less complex and more comfortable system than is possible with MIPS.
Straps: The straps are adjustable and use a standard quick-release buckle.
Retention System: POC don’t have a fancy name for this and simply call it the “Size adjustment system”. It’s just a standard. dial-type retention system that is effective at stabilising the helmet on your head.
Ventilation: There are 15 or so nice big vents to keep the cool air coming in and the hot air going out. The rear of the helmet also has a pretty nifty sunglass storage system so you’ll be able to securely stow your glasses if things get steamy or you lose your light partway through the ride.
Padding: The SPIN pads used in this helmet are made from surgical grade silicone and offer an extra degree of protection while also being super comfy.
Visor: The visor is adjustable so you can get it just right.
Weight:
- XS-S: 337g
- M-L: 368g
- XL-XXL: 390g
Other: There is a RECCO reflector built into the helmet so rescue services should hopefully be able to find you if you send it a little too far off that jump. There is also a goggle clip on the rear of the helmet so your strap will always stay in place.
Pros: Stylish. light. and well-ventilated helmet with the innovative SPIN rotational system to keep your brain more protected during oblique impacts.
Cons: Does anyone actually need a goggle clip on an open face helmet?
